The Hampton University Scholarship
Thanks to the generous support of the Marilyn and Ray Gindroz Foundation, each year the ICA&CA offers The Hampton University Scholarship, allowing a student selected by the faculty of its Department of Architecture the opportunity to attend one of the seven-day intensive courses of study offered in New York City at the Institute’s national headquarters. Besides the direct pedagogical benefit to the recipient, participation in this intensive session enables the student to return to Hampton University with an enhanced appreciation of the classical tradition and an ability to share this knowledge with fellow students and faculty alike.
The Marilyn and Ray Gindroz Foundation was established to provide opportunities to students of music and of architecture. For the last three years, the foundation has worked with the historically black Hampton University’s Department of Architecture to enrich its program with travel and study opportunities.
The scholarship provides subsidy for tuition, accommodations, as well as transportation to and from New York City from Hampton. This full scholarship is granted to a deserving applicant based on the quality of his or her drawings and related accomplishment, along with a statement of interest.

The Hannah McCarthy Smith Memorial Scholarship
Thanks to the generous and heartfelt leadership of architect Khalil Hamady of Hamady Architects LLC in Charlottesville, Virginia, the ICA&CA now offers scholarships designated for its annual Rome Drawing Tour named in memorial honor of Hannah McCarthy Smith.
The Rome Drawing Tour takes place every June and guides both practitioners and amateurs alike in taking advantage of the unique classical assets of the world’s Eternal City.
Hannah Smith participated in the 2009 Rome Drawing Tour along with her mother, Patti Smith, a distinguished interior designer based in Greenwich, Connecticut. Vibrant, young Hannah died tragically last summer after her return from Rome and just prior to assuming a new job in the wake of her graduation from Ohio Wesleyan University. Just as Hannah discovered the culture and history of Rome, so now can others honored by her namesake example.
Deadline and Decision
Applications are due by March 1, 2010. Selection is made by the ICA&CA Education Department.
Eligibility
The Hannah McCarthy Smith Memorial Scholarship is open to everyone with a passionate interest in studying the classical tradition.
